Empathy, Understanding and New Ways of Working

I recently began working with a team member who encounters challenges during their commute. Despite these difficulties, they consistently arrive on time and meet all expectations. Although they have only been with us for a short time, they have already demonstrated their trustworthiness, self-motivation, and ability to work independently.

One of the key insights from a recent course on **remote work** was the importance of **face-to-face interactions**. While I recognise the advantages of working from home, I don’t believe it should be the primary arrangement for everyone. Our company policies typically favour in-office work, reserving remote arrangements for **exceptional circumstances**. As a manager, I am committed to finding ways to seamlessly blend work and home life by exploring **flexible working options**.

For instance, some team members may experience anxiety during peak commuting times or special events that lead to heavy traffic. To alleviate their stress, I’ve suggested they consider working from home on particularly challenging days. This small adjustment can significantly enhance **wellbeing** and **productivity**. We have the tools to support remote work, and it’s all about building trust and effectively applying flexible working principles.

If we introduce a work-from-home option, establishing clear boundaries is crucial.
